The death of Mrs. Ruth Heavrin (Kirby) is the most devastating experiences a family can face. At times, the loss may seem unbearable. Please know that there are those who care and more importantly Psalm 34:18 tells us that "God is near to those that are broken at heart. Jehovah is the God of all comfort. My prayers are with you and your family. jw.org

To Mrs. Heavrin's family-
I am a former student. I had senior English at Eastern High School with Mrs. Heavrin. She literally drug me across the finish line. I was a stubborn, and lazy student, and did not like Beowulf or the Canterbury Tales. So, I wasn't going to read it. Well, it was getting deep into the semester, oh say, 2 days before graduation, and she came to me and said "I don't think you will pass." It was my own fault. I was in tears. She told me that if I went home and read the Canterbury Tales, wrote a paper and then came in and took a test the next day that we would see how things would go. Needless to say, my parents were mad and I was distraught. I read the book, wrote the essay and took the test. Scoring an A on both, thus passing senior English. She did not have to do that for me, and I am forever grateful she did.

Flash forward 34 years... At 51 years old I am finishing an English degree at UL. We just read the Canterbury Tales a couple of weeks ago. I tried to locate Mrs. Heavrin because I wanted to thank her and tell her what an impact she made on me. I learned she was in Atlanta but was unable to connect with her. And, now I've learned of her passing.

Please know that your mother left a lasting impression on me...I only wish I could've told her personally.

Peace to you and your family-
Karen

Ruth made a difference. Someone that personified what being a teacher was all about. After all these years, I remember her fondly as Simone that wanted each of us to drive to learn and be better. Well done Ruth, you did it! My most sincere condolences to her family.
Peace & Blessings,
Jon Campbell "83"
