Judy Ann (Owen) Hirtzel

Judy Ann (Owen) Hirtzel, 70, of Pewee Valley, Ky., formerly of Vallonia, Ind., passed away Wednesday, June 10, with her family by her side. She was a beloved wife, mother, mamaw, aunt and friend.

Judy was born in Seymour, Ind., and grew up Vallonia, Ind., graduating from Vallonia High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader and Class President and Valedictorian. She attended Purdue University and worked for Arvin Industries in Columbus, Ind. She was a stay-at-home mom for years, giving her time as Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader, Red Cross First Aid Volunteer, and volunteer at St. Aloysius church and school. She also did modeling work for Alix Adams and Cosmopolitan modeling agencies, starring in several local commercials during the 1970’s. She went back to full-time work in the family business, B&W Specialty House, retiring as CFO in 2009.

Judy was a lucky lady, not just because of the wealth of family and friends she held dear. She enjoyed going to bingo and the casino, winning cars, computers, jackpots, and most recently the capital prize at the 2014 St. Aloysius summer picnic.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Freda and Rodney Owen; father-in-law William Francis Hirtzel; sister, Betty Bastin and brother-in-law Hubert Bastin.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, William J. “Bil” Hirtzel; her children Carey (Jennie) Hirtzel, Justin (Jill) Hirtzel, and Jane Anne (Jeff) Kaelin; grandchildren Austin and Lexi Hirtzel, Joshua Hirtzel, and Lucas, Alex and Ellie Kaelin. Also nieces Peggy (Jeff) Davis, Jeanne (Chris) Adamson and Rhonda Richardson, and nephew Gary (Kim) Bastin, and 17 great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Pewee Valley, Ky., at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, with burial to follow in Pewee Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, Ky. from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, and 9:00-10:30 a.m. Monday.
