William Norris Obituary

We are sad to announce that William S Norris
passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of 9 February 2024 at Memorial Hospital of Tampa after a gradual decline in health. He was 98 years old. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Bill was born in Bowling Green, KY on August 22, 1925, to James Norris and Eva (Haycraft). Bill worked hard all his young life and received his 'greetings' for WWII on his 18th Birthday! Upon returning he traveled working as a Big Crane Operator for over 40 years Retiring to care for his loving wife Ruth who preceded him in death. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He has impacted many people in his long and fulfilled lifetime.
Bill was a WWII Army Veteran of Pacific Theatre, retired Crane operator Local 132 International Union Operating Engineers, Founding member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, American Legion Post 39 Member, and a 32nd Degree Mason (Master Mason). Uncle Bill never met a stranger and loved going out and talking to people. He listened more than he spoke, but when he did speak you could bet it would be worth hearing. He was a great man and will surely be missed.
He is survived by his daughter Linda Baylis; 3 grandchildren: Heather Jones (Robert), Heath Jones (Megan), Hilary Jones; one great grandchild, Hayden Jones; his nephews: Larry Norris (Karen), Terry Norris (Ginger), Joe Hamilton III (KimberLee) and one niece Barbara Fouts.
