Wiley Nelson Carr, Sr., 80, passed away after a brave battle with cancer on Thursday, April 15th at his home in Crestwood, KY. He was born on December 29, 1940; the son of the late Russell Earl Carr and Anna L. (Crane) Carr. Wiley graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Master of Science in Public Relations. He also received his Master of Business Administration in Hospital Administration from Xavier University. He is a Life Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Wiley worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington and Edgewood, KY for over 20 years. He held several senior administrative roles including Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He then served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, IN for 11 years. He was currently employed at HealthSearch Partners (Chicago, IL) helping with publications and public relations as well as at Alpha Leasing in Louisville, KY. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. In connection with their mission work, Wiley volunteered at a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan. Wiley enjoyed an active life including scouting, photography, scuba diving, began riding a motorcycle at age 71 and began playing the keyboard at 78. He also enjoyed traveling and visited all fifty states and 21 countries.
Wiley was preceded in death by his parents, his sister (Carol Ann Carr), and wife, Sharon Kersey-Carr. He is survived by his loving children, Wiley Nelson (Ana) Carr, Jr., Alison (Sean) Carr McNeil, Elizabeth (Scott) Carr Maddox, the Rev. Joshua (Stephanie) Carr, and Joy (Charlton) Carr Scott; brothers, C.J. and Ed Carr; sisters, Julia Clubb and Kathleen Holden; dear grandchildren, Wiley Nelson Carr III, Victoria Grace Berry, Taylor McKenzie Maddox, Reagan Matthew Maddox, Katherine Grace McNeil, Sarah Faith McNeil, Khara Rose Scott, Kaden Joshua Paul Scott; step-grandfather to Krysti Forsythe and Sean J. McNeil; stepfather to Jamie Jarboe; his children’s mother, Grace Carr; his very good friend, Mary Hundley; as well as many additional close relatives and friends.
A memorial service will take place on Thursday, April 22nd at 3:00 PM at 7 Hills Church, 6800 Hazel Court Florence, KY 41042. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that expressions of sympathy be directed to a charity of their choice. Condolences:www.stoessfuneralhome.com
