Thomas Sabin Obituary

Thomas Berry Sabin, 76, beloved husband of Sherilyn, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 28, 2022 at Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Malone, New York, the oldest of five children to the late Lloyd and Margaret Sabin.

Besides his loving wife of 51 years, he is survived by his children, Marc (Sarah) Sabin, Traci (Andrew) Witt, and Kara (Clifton) Matekovich.  He was an adored “Papa” to his seven grandchildren: Caley, Téa and Soleil Sabin; Lenna, Lillian and Davis Witt; and Noah Matekovich, as well as his siblings, Deborah Sabin and Robert (Janet) Sabin, sister-in-laws, Deborah Miller, Gayle (Malcolm) Miner, Cynthia King, Kim Lagow, brother-in-law, Kurt Venema, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Ben and June Venema, brother, Jon Sabin, and brother-in-laws, Mitchell Hallow and Scott Miller.

Thomas was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy.  He was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Pewee Valley, where he served on the Vestry as Senior Warden, as Usher and Greeter, Chalice Bearer, Fundraising Chair and Men’s Group member.  He loved golfing, fishing, was an avid sports fan, but none more than his beloved New York Yankees.

Funeral services will be held at St. James’ Episcopal Church on April 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.  Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Gleason Hall next to the Church.
