On Thursday, March 12th, 2020, Silvana Aurora Alba Maresca Hill, loving and vivacious wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend passed away as a result of a bout with cancer at the age of 68. Silvana was born to Virginia and Emanuele Maresca in Naples, Italy on January 26th, 1952 as the youngest of eight children. She arrived in New York on the SS Constitution in 1966 along with her mother and siblings, where she was reunited with her sisters, nieces, and nephews that had already immigrated. Four years later she married Raymond and traveled extensively as a proud military wife of a US Airman. Erick was born in 1971 while the family was stationed at Orange Air Force Base in Orlando, FL. Tiffany was born in 1975 on Henderson Air Force base in Guam U.S. where Silvana took part in assisting the over 100,000 Vietnamese that were evacuated to Guam that same year. Raymond was forced to retire due to health reasons in 1979 and Silvana not only stuck by his side but started her college education, where she eventually attained a Bachelors of Arts in English and a Masters of Science in Health Systems Management from the University of Louisville, the first in her family to do so. Silvana’s husband and children all achieved Bachelor’s degrees or better. Silvana started an extensive and prolific career proudly serving veterans at the VA Hospital in Louisville in 1981 and ended her career as Associate Medical Center Director at the VA Hospital in San Diego in 2014. Silvana is preceded in death by her husband Raymond; her beloved granddaug;hter, Silvana Bianca Hill; sister, Piera Palombino; and brother, Joseph Maresca. Silvana is survived by her son, Erick (Laura Graves); daughter, Tiffany Goad (Chris); grandchildren, Abbigail Hill (Sarah Williams), Mason Hill, Brynli Goad, and Taylor Goad; loving partner, Morris Pillischafske; sisters, Maria, Enza, Ida, Iolanda; brother, Armando; her friends, Pam, Ellen, Gordon, and Guy who were always there through the best and worst of times and of course little Gigio, Silvana’s beloved Maltese.
Visitation and funeral services will take place at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church 6500 Saint Bernadette Ave., Prospect, KY 40059 on Thursday, March 19th starting at 10 am with the service at 11 am. The family asks to keep contact to a minimum and to use the space in the church due to current health concerns.
