Shirley Lavonia (Rooks) Mahurin

Shirley L. Mahurin, born March 11, 1942, died peacefully in her sleep at The Springs at Oldham Reserve, Friday, January 10, 2025. She was 82 years old. Shirley was the youngest daughter of five siblings born to Thomas and Mary Rooks in Atlanta GA. She attended College Park High School in Atlanta and worked as an Administrative Assistant at General Electric Co. for over 20 years.  It was there she met her husband, Keith W. Mahurin. They were married for 46 years. Their blended family consisted of five children: Eddie, Vickie, Nancy, Tony and Tara.

Shirley and Keith lived in Atlanta, GA, Louisville, KY and Chicago, IL before returning to Crestwood, KY and residing in Oldham County for the last 32 years. Shirley was an active member of Buckner Baptist / Ashland Community Church for over 30 years where she had many dear friends and served on the church Dinner Committee, dishing up her delicious recipes for the congregation. She was a great cook, enjoyed traveling and even spent several years square dancing with Keith.  But her greatest love was her family!

Shirley loved hosting holiday meals, and weekend dinners for the family. She enjoyed going out to dinner and stopping afterwards for ice cream! She and Keith had nine grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren that they doted on and loved having at their house. There was always lots of love and laughter at those gatherings.

Shirley had a sweet personality, a big heart and loved her sweets & candy! Her smile would light up a room when she entered, and she made everyone feel loved. She will be missed dearly by all.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, her beloved husband, Keith W. Mahurin, sons, Keith Edward ‘Eddie’ Mahurin, Anthony Wayne ‘Tony’ Kinney, and grandson, Kevin Mahurin.

She is survived by her daughters, Tara Mudd (Kevin), Vickie Pike (Tommy), and Nancy Sisson (Eric) and grandchildren: Rachael Loggins (Blane), Matthew Kinney (Christin), Gregory Kinney, Alek Pike, Jake Sisson, Lauren Mudd, Kristin Mudd, and Brayden Sisson (Lauren). Great-grandchildren: Riley, Reagan, Reese, and Layla.
