Sherilyn D Sabin

Sherilyn Deyanne Sabin, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 23, 2022, at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY, after a short battle with cancer.

She was born in Herkimer, New York, the oldest of five children to the late Bernard and June Venema. 

Sherilyn is survived by her children, Marc (Sarah) Sabin, Traci (Andrew) Witt, and Kara (Clifton) Matekovich. She was a beloved “Mimi” to her seven grandchildren: Caley, Téa and Soleil Sabin; Lenna, Lillian and Davis Witt; and Noah Matekovich, as well as her siblings, Deborah Miller, Gayle (Malcolm) Miner, Kurt Venema and Cynthia King; and in-laws Deborah Sabin, Robert (Janet) Sabin, Kim Lagow and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Thomas; her parents; her in-laws, Lloyd and Margaret Sabin, and brothers-in-law, Scott Miller, Mitchell Hallow and Jon Sabin.

Sherilyn was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Pewee Valley, where she served on the Healing Blanket Ministry, Altar Guild, Episcopal Church Women’s group, as an usher and a wedding coordinator. She loved traveling, the beach, reading, and baking, especially birthday and holiday treats for her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at St. James’ Episcopal Church on November 1, 2022, at 5:30 p.m.  Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 4:00p.m. in Gleason Hall next to the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or St. James Episcopal Church.
