Ruth Elsie Brekken

Ruth Elsie Brekken, 81, passed away at her home in Louisville, KY on July 6th, 2025.

Ruth was born in Stoughton, Wisconsin on July 3rd, 1944.  She attended the University of Wisconsin and went on to become an LPN for 30 plus years.  It was her work as a nurse that brought her genuine joy and fulfillment.  She worked at Roederer Correctional as well as Arcadia Senior Living.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Ruth was an avid bird watcher, diligent reader, a true horse enthusiast and animal lover.  She was a fan of the Greenbay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.  She was a member of Southeast Christian Church.  Her favorite pastime was having a morning cup of coffee and gardening.  She loved being a prominent and active grandmother in all of her grandchildren's lives.

Her kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carrol and Helen Brekken and brother, Donald Brekken.

Ruth is survived by her son, Hal Brekken (Tammy Brekken); daughter, Heidi  Williams (Curt Williams); 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; siblings, Claremont, David, Janice and Roger.

Funeral service will be Saturday, 12 noon, Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery.  Visitation will be 10 am until 12 noon Saturday.
