Ronald Thacker Obituary

Ronald “Ron” Thacker

Ronald Irwin Thacker passed away January 9, 2025, surrounded by his family after a brief illness at Baptist Health Louisville.   Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lee and Ruby May Thacker, brother, Joseph (Joe) Thacker, and sister-in-law, Alice Faye Thacker.  Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 65 years, Saundra (Sandy) Thacker and their children, Michael Thacker, Sharon (Robert) Schwarz, and Karen Banks along with his grandchildren Lauren Schwarz, Patrick Schwarz and Alex Banks, many nieces; nephews and dear friends.

Born in Louisville, KY, Ron later moved to Oldham County to raise his family. Ron began working at Ford Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP) when it opened in 1969.  While working at KTP, Ron earned his real estate license and found his true calling as an award-winning realtor in the Oldham County area. He later retired from Ford after 30 years.

Ron’s love-hate relationship with golf intensified when he joined Oldham County Country Club (OCCC) in 1968.  As an OCCC member, Ron loved few things more than playing, watching, talking about, or thinking of golf.  His passion for the game never waned and he enjoyed playing with friends until the last days of his life.

Ron was active in numerous organizations, including the Oldham County Jaycees, the Crestwood Volunteer Fire Department, the Moose Lodge, South Oldham Sportsman’s Club, Methodist Men’s Club, and his neighborhood association.

After retirement, Ron continued to enjoy spending time with his family; traveling the world with Sandy and friends.  Visiting several countries, Ron’s favorite trip may have been Rome, Italy or his cruise along the Rhine River. His winters were spent in New Smyrna Beach, FL with their friends at Southeaster and playing golf as often as he could get a group and a tee time.

Ron may be best described as a good old boy – a generous man who never met a stranger, was quick to extend a helping hand, and unselfishly provided for his family.  He will be missed more than words can say.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Baptist Heath Louisville Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for their support and care.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to First Tee-Louisville or Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
