Mitchell Ray Williams

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Mitchell Ray Williams, age 63, passed unexpectedly in his sleep early Friday, March 14th, 2025. He was a beloved son, son-in-law, husband, father, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and grandfather. Mitch loved his family deeply. He was a helpmate, supporter, and best friend to his wife, Jenny. Mitch was so proud of his children Joanna, Leslie, MacKenna, and Nico as well as his grandchildren Jacob, Charles, Audrey and Jack.

Mitch accomplished many things in his lifetime including serving in the Army, coaching youth athletics, and teaching middle school Language Arts and reading. Mitch would count as his greatest accomplishment, his service and dedication to his family. Mitch provided encouragement and a firm foundation for his wife and children to accomplish their dreams. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to make their day-to-day life go as smoothly and joyfully as possible.

A 1980 graduate of Grandview High School in Kansas City, Missouri, Mitch would be remembered for his outstanding sports accomplishments in football, basketball and baseball. Mitch earned a bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University in English and a master’s degree in Education at the University of Louisville.

Mitch loved sports, especially softball. He enjoyed playing and watching sports with his family as well as coaching youth sports. He was a dedicated coach to MacKenna for over a decade. He was also a volunteer and lover of the South Oldham Marching band, supporting Nico’s passion for music. Perhaps most famously, Mitch was an excellent chef. Mitch’s ability to “throw together” gourmet level dishes was a constant topic of conversation amongst those who had the joy of eating around his table. Mitch also had encyclopedic knowledge of just about anything and was a welcome addition to any trivia team.

Mitch also loved animals. He took amazing care of the Williams household “zoo”, which included 19 animals over the years that all were given a wonderful life due to Mitch’s dedication.

Mitch was a dear brother and brother-in-law and was always encouraging as a good listener, giver, and helper. “Uncle Mitch” was a favorite to his many nieces and nephews. He was generous, fun-loving, food-providing, protector, and teacher to all of them and he was dearly loved.

Mitch was also the friend everyone needs in their life. If Mitch knew of a need, he would do his best to fix it. A favorite story is of a friend who woke up to Mitch delivering coffee to their house early in the morning, just because he knew they would need it.

Most importantly, Mitch and Jenny led a love story that many dream of and few experience. From the moment they met they knew it was for a lifetime. Mitch and Jenny met in 1999 and married in 2001. Their marriage was a strong friendship and partnership in work and in raising MacKenna and Nico.

Mitch is survived by his wife, Jenny, and his children Joanna (Kim), Leslie (Colin), MacKenna, and Nico and his grandchildren Jacob, Charles, Audrey and Jack. He is also survived by his sister Gina Hoffman (Dennis).

He is preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Frye, father, Max Williams, and his older brother Mike.

There will be a funeral service to remember and celebrate Mitch’s life on Saturday, March 22nd at 11:00 am at Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church, 119 Central Ave, Pewee Valley, KY, 40056. Friends will be received at 10:00 am. There will be a reception immediately following the service.

Mitch leaves such a big hole in our lives. He will be missed every day. He was the love of my life and I am thankful for every day I got to spend with him ~ Jenny.
