Mary Ruth Van Gundy, age 84, went to her eternal home on December 6, 2020. She was born April 5, 1936 in Maysville, Kentucky to William V. Wise and Ruth E. (Stribling) Wise. She was married to a devoted and loving man, William (Doc) Van Gundy who preceded her to heaven in 2000.
Mary Ruth graduated from Lloyd Memorial High School in Erlanger Kentucky. She was a lifetime member of ESA International and a retired employee of Yum Brands Inc.
Surviving her is her youngest sister, Joan Hayes. She was blessed with three loving daughters, Kathryn Oberfrank, Denise Powell (George), and Tonya Sheehan. Her adoring grandchildren Nicole Bush (Jake), Justin Oberfrank, Casey Sheehan, Cody Sheehan, and Carlee Sheehan and three great grandsons: Reed Chatman, Braven Sheehan, and Seeley Bush. She was preceded in death by her brother, William E. Wise and sister, Ruby C (Wise) Baird.
Crestwood Baptist Church is where she served faithfully alongside her sisters and brothers in Jesus for 15 years. Lovingly caring for the children, adults, and staff. She was a faithful part of that body of believers in the study of God’s Word and Worship.
From the words of her favorite song: Because He lives I can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the (my) future and life is worth the living just
because He lives. These words rang true in her life as a breast cancer survivor of 33 years and the pain she bore for many years with rheumatoid arthritis.
She asks you not to be sad for her today but to know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Her final written words left to her children were “Rejoice, I love each of you.” Those words were for all who loved her.
She asks you to join us in celebration of her life at Crestwood Baptist Church 6400 Sweetbay Drive Crestwood Kentucky 40014 on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 11: 00 am.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8, 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm. at Stoess of Crestwood. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery
