Larry Thomas Brannin, 74, of Crestwood died August 30, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born in Louisville, KY on July 14, 1951 to the late Thomas and Elmira Brannin.
Larry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young boy while attending a Royal Ambassadors summer camp in Cedarmore, KY. He was ordained as a deacon at Harrod’s Creek Baptist Church. Most recently, Larry was a faithful member of Crestwood Baptist Church where he served to lead the Audio/Visual team each week.
Larry was a devoted family man. He and his wife, Barbara, recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, proud father, doting grandfather, dedicated son and brother, as well as a caring uncle.
Having served in the Civil Air Patrol, US Air Force, and Kentucky Air National Guard, Larry was a proud veteran! After high school, Larry enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in both California and Missouri. After four years of service in the US Air Force, Larry became active in the Kentucky Air National Guard. He retired after 21 years of military service as a Tech Sergeant. He was later recognized as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Early in his professional career, Larry worked servicing pianos and organs for Settle’s Sales and Service of Jeffersontown, KY. He was later self-employed servicing and tuning pianos. Most notably, Larry served as the Media Productions Director for the Kentucky Baptist Convention where he filmed and produced countless videos for projects including the Cooperative Program and the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief of Kentucky. While he was with the Diaster Relief of Kentucky, he was promoted to Chaplain. He also assisted many churches with designing and installing their own audio/visual systems. Larry retired from KBC after 25 years of dedicated service.
Larry was an avid traveler. He treasured the time he spent traveling during his military service, his tenure with KBC, and in his personal travel with family. These adventures took him to Germany, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, England, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Honduras, Brazil, Spain, France, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Canada among others.
Larry will be fondly remembered by many for the enthusiasm and joy he brought to his personal interactions with others, the causes he cared about and the hobbies he enjoyed. Larry was a life-long learner, constantly striving to remain knowledgeable about the most up-to-date technical equipment and software in the field of video production. He was faithful with his time volunteering with the WAGS program and was an active member of the Eastern High School class of 1969. Larry also cherished his many collaborations with colleagues and conversations with friends. He never met a stranger.
Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elmira Brannin. He is survived by his wife Barbara; his sons Richard (Kendonna) and Michael (Brooke); his sister Deanna Otto; three grandchildren (Alie Beth, Ryman and Everly); and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at Crestwood Baptist Church in Crestwood, KY. The visitation will be from 10:00am – 1:00pm on Friday, September 5th, 2025 with a service immediately following at 1:00pm.
