Kyle Ray, 55, a talented musician and educator, died Sunday, May 10, 2026.
He was born March 3, 1971, to Charles and Linda (Walsh) Ray, and grew up in Bowling Green, KY.
He graduated from Bowling Green High School, then from the University of Louisville with a degree in music education. Kyle played the trumpet in his high school and college marching bands. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education from Western Kentucky University, and a second Master’s degree in Education Administration from Bellarmine University.
Music was Kyle’s passion, and as a teacher and band director at North Oldham Middle School, his goal was to introduce the joy of music to his students, and to foster young musicians so they too could flourish. He retired in 2023 after 27 years.
Under his direction, the bands had strong performances and consistently earned honors at the Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Solo and Ensemble Festival, as well as state marching band competitions. He was an active member with KMEA.
For 10 years, he served as Music Director at St. John United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Our Story Church in St. Matthews, where he led worship.
On June 18, 1999, he married his beloved – Teresa Givan. They were blessed with two sons: Bennett Ray (Mads) and Davis Ray (fiancée Hannah Nikol).
He was preceded in death by his mother.
In addition to his wife, sons, and daughter-in-law, he is survived by his father Charlie Ray, brother Stan Ray (Daphne), sisters-in-law Carla Motes (Barry), and Kathy Webb (Tim), and treasured nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Kyle will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, with services 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In keeping with Kyle’s vibrant personality, visitors are encouraged to wear bright and cheerful colors.
