It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, and friend, Joshua Richardson. He passed away on February 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was 46 years old.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Joshua was the son of Ralph and Jan Johnson Richardson. He attended Oldham County High School, graduating in 1996. During his time there, he played on the JV and Varsity soccer teams, where he discovered his lifelong passion for the game.
Joshua married his high school sweetheart, Katherine Sparkman, and together they shared 22 years of marriage, raising three wonderful children: Alexandra, Donovan, and Nathaniel. He was a devoted husband and father, always placing his family at the center of his life.
A dedicated basketball and soccer coach, Josh was an inspiration to countless young athletes. His coaching was never just about winning—it was about teaching teamwork, perseverance, and respect. He poured his heart into mentoring kids both on and off the field, shaping them into not only better athletes but better individuals.
Beyond his love for sports, Josh had a gift for fixing things—whether it was a broken appliance, a car in need of repair, or simply lending a helping hand. His ability to solve problems and his willingness to help others were defining traits of his character.
Josh’s journey in life was one of transformation and faith. In his earlier years, he faced personal struggles with alcoholism, but through immense courage and determination, he turned his life around. His relationship with God became his source of strength and healing, and in September 2023, he was baptized. On that same day, he had the profound honor of baptizing his wife and all three of his children. His faith in Christ brought him immeasurable joy and peace, and he passionately shared his testimony with those around him.
Josh was more than just a coach, husband, father, or son—he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of strength and encouragement to everyone he met. His kindness, generosity, humor, and selflessness will never be forgotten.
Josh is survived by his loving wife, Katherine; his three children, Alexandra, Donovan, and Nathaniel; his mother, Jan Richardson; and countless family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Richardson.
Visitation will be held at Chapel in the Woods on Friday, February 21st, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 22nd, from 9:30 – 12:00 p.m., followed by his funeral and graveside service.
May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy of faith, love, and transformation will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
