Joseph Harry Stewart, 88, of Crestwood went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday July 19th at his home. He was born in Miami, Florida on March 13th, 1934. He graduated from Miami High School as class president, then went to Columbia Bible College where he met his first wife Elizabeth Gibson Skaggs. He and his wife were leaders in ministry and Young Life. Joe’s leadership abilities were also demonstrated in his many business endeavors, culminating in owning his own company. He was active in several professional organizations including Manufacturers Representatives of America and Kentucky Restaurant Association, where he served as a director.
In addition to a successful career, Joe enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his family and he loved the Lord.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years, Elizabeth “Libby”, his second wife of 29 years, Beverly Jean Matthews, and his brother, Louis Albert Stewart. He is survived by his children; Margo (Barry) Sanders, Tom Stewart, David (Sonya) Stewart, & Joseph “Jay” (Sarah) Stewart Jr., and step children; Andrea Kusten, and Steven Matthews. Also carrying on his legacy are his eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Joe, Dad, Grandpa Joe, and “Joe Joe” will be dearly missed but he will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be Sunday July 24th 3:00-6:00 pm, service will be Monday at 11:00 am at Stoess Funeral Home 6534 KY-22, Crestwood, KY 40014. A graveside service will follow at Floydsburg Cemetery.
