Joseph Richard Massey, Sr., passed away on May 23rd, 2021. He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Peggy Massey; parents, James Frank Massey and Mary Agnes Dick; siblings, Harold A. Massey, James F. Massey Jr., Joyce Metcalf, Jean Garvin, and Nancy Strong. Joseph is survived by his son, Richard Massey Jr. (Dena); daughters, Heather Massey (Ben) and Terri Massey; grandchildren, Montaynna Sharp (Andrew), Megan Lay (Jake), Rachel Lay (Ian), Trystan Heightchew and Joseph Lay; sisters, Shirley Maguire, Betty Lefebvre, Patsy Bell, Caroline Edlin and Judy Pretty, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was a welder and retired from Welding and Therapy and was a member of the Air National Guard in Louisville. He was a great man in thoughts, words, and deeds. He would give his last dime, shirt or bite of food to others. He was large in any room and was a shining light of humor, love, and goodwill.
He gave Richard, Heather, and Terri the best childhood and prepared them to go out and live their lives with love and respect for others. He instilled in them to work hard, honor their family, and be good to others. He worked hard his whole life whether at his job, being a husband and parent, grandparent and in the end worked hard to stay alive! He never half-assed anything and if it was worth doing, do it right the first time.
So, today we grieve the loss of him from this earth but we celebrate his rebirth in Heaven. Please bring your treasured memories to share!
Funeral mass will be Friday 11Am, St. Aloysius Catholic Church with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 2-8PM, Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood. condolences:www.stoessfuneralhome.com
