John R. Tanner peacefully passed away Thursday, March 23 2023. He was the son of the late Thelma and John F. Tanner. He was born in Louisville, KY on June 10 1936 and was a graduate of Flaget High School class of 1954.
He served in the Army National Guard before working as an employee of Fischer Packing Company and retired after 34 years. Active in the Boys Scouts of America Organization being a scout himself and becoming an adult scout leader. He was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Knights of Columbus organization at St. Aloysius Church.
John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Kathleen Hannan Tanner. He is preceded in death by his son Michael Tanner and son in law Kenneth Higgins. He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Higgins, his son Daniel Tanner, and his daughter in law Jennifer Tanner. His brother Kenneth Tanner(Evelyn), grandchildren Elizabeth Cummings(Adam), Amy Higgins, Steven Tanner, Emily Tanner, Todd Higgins(Kristin), Kym Downs(Randy), 8 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was a founding member of the "Order of the Otter" a group of friends who all loved camping and hiking together. After retiring his passion became his family, his garden and following the U of K Wildcats.
Funeral Mass held 11AM Wednesday March 29 at St. Aloysius Church, Pewee Valley. Visitation at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood Tuesday March 28 from 2PM to 8PM
