James Edward Harris, Jr. was born on July 17, 1931, in Pewee Valley, Kentucky, to the late James Edward Harris, Sr., and Anna Catherine Hinkle Harris.
At an early age, James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He became a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Pewee Valley, where he joined the Brotherhood and faithfully served as a Deacon, walking humbly in his calling.
In 1953, James married his beloved Rosella Hale. Their union, rooted in faith and love, endured for 61 years. Together, they raised two children, James Edward Harris III and Connie P. Harris, and built a home filled with laughter, prayer, and family.
James was a man of deep devotion. In Rosella’s later years, he remained steadfast by her side; praying, singing, and filling her days with tenderness and care.
Professionally, James was a masterful Stone Mason who perfected his craft over 45 years. His hands shaped works that still stand today as a testament to his strength and artistry. Honored as a Kentucky Colonel, he took great pride in both his heritage and contributions to the community.
James’ spirit was larger than life. His infectious laugh, playful humor, and welcoming heart made every soul feel like family. He never met a stranger, and if ever a line was crossed, he would lovingly and swiftly set things right.
On the morning of April 19, 2025, James heard the gentle call of his Savior.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, James Edward Harris III (Dorothy) and Connie P. Harris; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law; and a host of devoted friends and family. James was also blessed with one sister, Addie Ritchie, whom he loved dearly. Her children—Anna Sanders, Archie Ritchie, Rodger Ritchie, and James Ritchie—were like his own, a bond he deeply treasured.
