Herman was born July 18, 1962 in Louisville, KY to Warren and Gayle Humphrey. He earned his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Louisville Speed School in 1982. After meeting Sherri while attending UofL, he fell in love, proposed in 1984, and they married May 25, 1985. While being newlyweds, he finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at Western Kentucky University in December, 1985. On November 4, 1989, they welcomed Victoria Lea to their little family. Then on July 5, 1993, their family was made complete with the birth of Nicholas Michael. In May 1997, Herman earned his Master’s Degree in Applied Engineering and Industrial Technology from Eastern Kentucky University.
The majority of Herman’s career was spent at Jim Beam Brands Company in Frankfort as a Project Engineer, where he worked for over 20 years. In early 2017, he joined Vitok Engineers in Louisville as Electrical Engineer, and then mid-2018, accepted an offer from Dow Chemical Company in Carrollton as Senior Electrical Engineer.
Herman’s world was his wife, kids, family and friends. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, collecting antique guns, tinkering with projects, and watching “The Walking Dead”. When the children were young, he greatly enjoyed spending each Spring and Fall Break in Destin, FL, however later in life, he enjoyed sailing the seas through Royal Caribbean’s cruise line.
Herman is survived by his loving wife of over 34 years, Sherri; loving children Victoria Humphrey Ma (Quy Ma) and Nicholas Humphrey; Mother-in-law (Mom), Marietta Burkhead; brother-in-law Shawn Burkhead (Susan), Nephews: Cody Burkhead (Rachel), Nathan Burkhead (Valor), and Christopher Humphrey. Nieces: Shelby Burkhead, Tabitha Tenerowicz (John), Amanda Kinnard (Cecil), Ashley Kinnard (Chordie); as well as many great nieces and nephews.
While Herman left this world far too soon, the impact he made on everyone around him is evident in the many family and friends celebrating his life.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10th , 2pm – 8pm and Wednesday, Dec. 11th, 10am – 12pm; funeral service to follow at 12pm.
