It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Herbert “Sonny” Thomas English Jr. who passed away on October 2, 2024. Sonny was born on August 13, 1934, in Louisville, KY to Herbert Thomas English Sr. and his wife, Edith Pearson English. After recently celebrating his 90th birthday, Sonny passed away Wednesday morning in the comfort of his own home, which sat on the beloved English family farm that he treasured. Sonny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and, most recently, great-grandfather. He was a proud farmer, owner of Nevel Meade Golf Course, and a lifelong pillar of joy and service in the Oldham County community, helping to plant River Valley Christian Church in Prospect, KY and loving and serving his family and community selflessly for many years. His legacy is profound, and his presence will be deeply missed. Sonny will be remembered for his dedication to loving Jesus, his family, and of course, the Kentucky Wildcats.
Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Edith English, and son, Lee English. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Patricia B. English, daughters Melanie Spaulding (Bill) and Melissa English (Kyle McPeck), and a host of grandchildren: Corwin Spaulding, Morgan Spaulding, Faith Tolson (Jon), Adalynn Reinhart (Joel Richard), Lillie Williams (Ethan), Luke Reinhart (Lyndsey), Mallory McPeck, Madison McPeck, and his great-grandson, Malachi Reinhart.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, KY on Monday, October 7, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00am-2:00pm with funeral service beginning promptly at 2:00pm. Graveside service will immediately follow at Harrods Creek Cemetery.
