Gary Thomas Hartmann, age 79, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at his home in Louisville, KY surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on August 21, 1944, in Louisville, KY to the late Millard Clarence and Henrietta Loeser Hartmann. He was a loving and devoted husband to Bonnie Carraco Hartmann for 55 years. Gary was a loving father to his daughter, Regina Hartmann Lowe and his son, Scott Thomas Hartmann. He was also a loving grandfather to Norman Thomas Hartmann and father-in-law to Melissa Smith Hartmann. Gary was preceded in death by his brother Millard C. Hartmann, Jr. and sister, Beverly Hartmann Lewellyn.
Gary went to Hikes Elementary in Louisville. He also went to Westport and Liberty Elementary in Oldham County. Gary graduated from Oldham County High School in 1962. After graduating high school, he worked with his father and brother farming. After leaving farming, he went into construction and was co-owner of Hartmann and McKinney Concrete for 35+ years and co-owner of Allstate Ready Mix. After retiring, he grain-farmed with his son and grandson. He was also a former member of the 100th Division Army Reserve from June 1965 to June 27, 1973.
Gary was a member of Mt. Tabor U.M.C. in Centerfield, KY since 1981 where he served in several positions. He loved his church and helping where needed. Gary loved playing cards, watching football and basketball games. Most of all, he loved spending time with his beloved family. Helping with what needed fixing, celebrating with them on special occasions and sporting events they participated in.
Gary was a man of few words, but he had a big, loving heart. He led by example and will be missed by his loving family so much.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Monday October 23rd at Stoess Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Tuesday October 24th at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church (3301 W. Hwy 22, Crestwood Ky. 40014).
