FRANK ALFORD COLBERT
11/27/23 TO 5/13/21
On Thursday May 13, 2021 Frank A. Colbert, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 97.
Frank was born in Washington DC and grew up around our nation’s capital. He graduated from Cornell University after serving 3 years in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked under the command of Lord Louis Mountbatten. He went on to pursue a career in food service administration. Interestingly, in 1949 JW Marriott himself hired Dad as a Manager for Hot Shoppes Restaurants, which would eventually grow into today’s Marriott International Inc.
Dad was a lifelong learner. He read voraciously, loved history, and was always learning new things. Even to the end he would google, email, shop online, and watch YouTube videos. Dad had a wonderful sense of humor. In combination with his extensive vocabulary he wrote funny and clever poems and enjoyed painting.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jean Woodward. He is survived by his children Tom Colbert (Connie), Suzanne Goodell (Jim), and Dave Colbert (Mette Petersen); grandchildren Thomas, Kathryn (Eric Weiner) and John Colbert; Dave (Sara Dudnik) Laura (Ryan Meader) and Steve Goodell; Tara (Brett Skorupa) and Brian Colbert; great-granddaughters Adeline and Isabelle Meader, and his sister Nancy Colbert Sampson.
