.Finis Gentry, 92, of Prospect passed away on June 24th, 2021. He was born In Noreen TN, raised in Rock City, TN and graduated from HS in Washington DC where he worked as a Congressional Page. As a perpetual overachiever, he went on to obtain his BSEE at the University of Tennessee where he met the love of his life (Mary Jane Jordan, Deceased 2016). Following graduation, he was hired by General Electric and they began building their life together in upstate New York as a Test Engineer. He continued his studies, received an MEE, got his PE in NY while taking on more advanced roles within GE. His knowledge, expertise and publications on semiconductors helped him get elected as an IEEE fellow 1968. During their time in Upstate NY, they adapted to the seasons in the north by taking up snow skiing in the winter and sailing in the summer. The family spent 16 years in Skaneateles, NY before accepting a new position with GE at Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky. His achievements with GE continued throughout his career and he was credited with 12 patents before retiring in 1990, but, the most important achievement was being a great Dad and grandfather. All their children were born and grew up in Upstate New York. The whole family enjoyed life in Upstate New York living on Skaneateles Lake for over 15 years while learning to swim, sail boats and snow ski. They adapted to their new life in Kentucky and lived happily for over forty years. Finis always enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, andvolunteering to help at church or taking on woodworking projects for daughters also living in Kentucky. Finis and Jane were loving grandparents who always enjoyed being with their grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Barbara, Becky and Doug; grandchildren, Johan Nielsen, Karina (Nielsen) Calvano, Kate (Bosomworth) Datzka, Kristi (Bosomworth) Davis and David Bosomworth III, James, Lisa and Samuel Gentry; great grandchildren Joey Calvano, Derek Dominic Davis III; and brother Owen Gentry. The funeral will be held on July 3rd at 11AM with Visitation starting at 9:30 AM at the Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road, Louisville, Ky 40207. A casual celebration of Finis’ life for those who came to know him while he lived in Lexington will be held at the home he shared with his granddaughter on Tuesday, July 29 th from 6-10.
