Ellie Ward

Jane Ellen “Ellie” Ward passed away December 29, 2024. Ellie was born July 18, 1982 in Louisville, Kentucky with a sweet little tuft of red hair and a joyful heart that lifted everyone around her. Full of light and mischief, she was the baby of the family and the center of attention for all who met her. She loved her mom and dad fiercely and from a little girl called her dad her hero, a true daddy’s girl. She was a shining star to her family. Those who knew her loved her fun spirit and most had an “Ellie story” to share.

At age 8, Ellie started Special Olympics. Over the years, she participated in track and field, softball, basketball and bowling, but her favorite was swimming. She was a little water loving fish. She loved to dance and loudly sing while listening to music. Making people laugh was one of her greatest gifts. 

Ellie was a graduate of South Oldham High School, attended Apple Patch Day Program and most recently Down Syndrome of Louisville. She brought so much laughter – and sometimes consternation – to those who knew her and definitely kept people on their toes. Her bright, sweet heart will be missed. 

Ellie is survived by her parents, Henry and Debbie Ward, siblings Melissa Brown (Tom), Sarah Lyverse (Scott), Paul Ward (Amy), Stephanie Mulberry, & many nieces & nephews
