Eleanor Shuster Obituary

Eleanor Ann Shuster, 89, died Friday afternoon, June 17, 2022, at Nazareth Home in Louisville, KY, following a valiant struggle lasting several years. She was a former Crestwood resident and member of Crestwood United Methodist Church.

Eleanor was born February 25, 1933 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Walter and Ruth Howard Heaton. Eleanor met and married the love of her life, Charlie (Charles) Shuster in August of 1951, and they remained devoted to one another for nearly 68 years, until his death in 2019.

She was known for her infectious smile and warm and welcoming demeanor. She never knew a stranger who would not become a friend within minutes of meeting. Eleanor loved a good game of almost any kind and kept detailed records of wins and losses over nightly card games with Charlie. Besides caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nothing made her happier than cooking and hosting a family meal. Eleanor loved a good sing along and was always prepared to hit the dance floor with anyone willing to accompany her. She took great pride in her entire family and loved spending time with her daughter, who was with her until the end.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Mitchell) Kennedy, of LaGrange; sister, Cheryl (Corby) Foster of Newark, Ohio; brothers Tom (Linda) Heaton of Florida, and Alan (Anita) Evans of Maryland; granddaughters Jennifer (Emery) Lewis, and Jillian (Josh) Martin;
great-grandchildren Riley and Emery Lewis, and Eleanor and Elaina Martin, loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, and beloved friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Nancy Westbrook, brother, Don Heaton, and step father, Wendell Evans.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, July 16th, at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, Ky. A private celebration and remembrance of Eleanor’s life will be held at the John W. Black Community Center in Buckner, KY for family and close friends at 12:30 following
