Earl Douglas Breeden, 74, of Owen County, KY entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, November 25, 2024, surrounded by those who loved him most. He was born on July 1, 1950, in Owen County, KY to the late Benny Earl Breeden and Addie Mae Breeden (Hammond). Earl was a graduate of Owen County High School in 1969 and attended college at Murray State University.
As a young man, Earl developed an interest of crime prevention and criminal justice. He served as a police officer in Boone County during the early years of his life and dedicated 26 years with the Kentucky Department of Justice in the rehabilitation of juvenile delinquents. Over the course of his career, he influenced and aided in the rehabilitation of thousands of young men. He was commissioned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1983 as a Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Commonwealth for his contributions to the community and state.
Earl lived most of his life in Crestwood, KY but returned to his hometown of Owen County to live out the glorious years of his retirement with his beautiful wife of 33 years. He had a passion for motorcycles and history; he enjoyed old guns and coins, Indian artifacts, boxing and held a high interest in government and our nation’s past presidents. His favorite past times included sitting on his back porch, riding around on his Kawasaki Mule, and talking on the phone to just about anyone he loved. He enjoyed practical jokes, was a big collector of anything sentimental and loved his wife and their family with his (big) whole heart.
Earl was preceded in death by his loving parents, Benny and Addie Mae; brother, Rocky Wayne; sister, Donna Jean; and fur babies, Roxy and Sally. He is survived by his loving wife; Mary Corine Breeden; three daughters, Lisa Kern, Jodie Couch (Eddie), and Kim Martinez; three sons, Dustin Pence (Vanessa), Tyler Pence (Randa) and Corey Pence. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Sydnie, Addison, Elle, Cole, Anthony, Drama, Kaity, Emma, Sadie, Bella, Reagan, Payne and Nolan; and five great grandchildren, Kaylie Rebecca, Poppy, Fable, and little girls Aubrie and Hazel both due to make appearances in March 2025.
Visitation will be held at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, KY on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:30 am, followed by the funeral service at 12:30. Burial immediately to follow.
