Clarence Ray Durham, 90, of Prospect, KY, passed away on August 6, 2021, after a tough battle with cancer. Clarence was born on September 1, 1930 to James and Mattie Durham in Kettle Island, KY. Once he graduated high school, Clarence joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He went to Eastern Kentucky University and graduated with an accounting degree after receiving an honorary discharge from the Navy. Upon graduation, he went to work for the U.S Treasury Dept., working in the tax fraud division. In 1967, he joined Liberty National Bank where after twenty eight years, he retired as the Director of Internal Audit and Senior Vice-President. While at EKU, he met the love of his life, Shelby Frances Wilburn. They married on August 18, 1956, and together have two children, Linda Rae and James Shelby. Clarence loved his family with all his heart and was so proud of each one — talking about them to everyone he met. His wife, Frances, was his best friend and sweetest companion for almost 65 years. His children - Linda & Jim Proffitt and Jim & Cheryl Durham blessed him with six grandchildren: Gracie Barrios, Nathan, and Rachel Proffitt, and Emily, Ben, and Tyler Durham. He loved serving God, and over his lifetime was a member of four churches where he made wonderful friends at each: South Louisville Christian, Southeast Christian, Northeast Christian, and River Valley Christian Church. He had a gift for making people feel loved. Nevertheless, Clarence’s happiest moments were when he was with his family. Anyone who knew him knew that Clarence was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather a family could have. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Southeast Christian Church- River Valley Campus in Prospect, KY. Burial will be at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00-8:00 pm at Stoess Funeral Home in
