Bennie Dee “Ben” Hunter, 74, of St. Louis, MO (formerly of LaGrange, KY) was born December 24, 1945, to Harley and Ethel Hunter, in Bedford, KY. He passed away December 14, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Ben married his High School sweetheart Marsha Bryant Hunter on February 20, 1965. Soon thereafter he joined the United States Army in August 1965 and retired as a Captain in May 1986. During his time in the Army, Ben was stationed, along with his wife and two sons, Chris and Eric, overseas and throughout the United States. He is also a Magna Cum Laude graduate earning a Bachelor’s of Science with a Computer Science Minor from American Technological University (now known as Texas A&M) in 1974. He was President of Epsilon Delta Pi Fraternity, an honor society in the Computer Sciences. He was the Automation Management Officer of Madigan Army Medical Center when he retired from the Army in May 1986. He then continued a career as a Computer Analyst Project Manager for various companies in St. Louis area until he finally retired in 2009. During his retirement, he became a Kentucky Colonel, and a member and active volunteer at the Creve Coeur American Legion Post 397. He also enjoyed various hobbies and traveling with his wife. He loved keeping up with his friends and family on social media and sharing pictures, memories, and various jokes.
Ben is survived by his loving wife of 55 years; Marsha. His sons, Chris and Eric; two sisters, Evelyn and Edith; mother-in-law, Helen Bryant; 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend to all. He was proceeded in death by his parents, 5 siblings, his father-in-law and sister-in-law. Ben was also a member of Gateway Christian Church in St. Louis, MO.
Visitation will be Monday, December 21, 2020 4pm – 8pm and Tuesday, December 22, 2020 11:00am-1:00pm.
Funeral Services will be privately held for the family on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1:00pm
Burial with Military Honors will be held at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, KY following the Funeral Service.
