Barbara Diane Nielsen

Barbara Diane Gentry Nielsen, 69, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on October 4, 1953, to the late Finis and Jane Jordan Gentry in Syracuse, New York. Barbara was a graduate of both Syracuse University and the University of Louisville, where she earned her master’s degree in Education. She went on to teach in the Oldham County School System at Camden Elementary, where she retired after 21 years of service. Family meant everything to Barbara, and she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren especially. After retirement, she found many projects to keep her busy. Whether it was gardening in the front yard, various decorating projects, or even adding an addition to her home; Barbara loved challenging herself and could master anything she put her mind to. Barbara enjoyed focusing on the beauty of the world, making her world beautiful, and would often block out any negativity. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending summers in Denmark and traveling all over Europe with her husband and just trying to enjoy life to its fullest. Barbara will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Finis Gentry and Jane Jordan Gentry.

Left to cherish her memory, Barbara leaves behind her loving husband of 45+ years, Tonni Nielsen; children, Johan Nielsen and Karina Calvano (Mike); 2 grandchildren, Joey and Sophia; 2 siblings, Becky Gentry Bosomworth Eigel (Bob) and Doug Gentry (Kyong Hui); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends.

A visitation for Mrs. Barbara Nielsen will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Stoess Funeral Home, 6534 W. Hwy 22, Crestwood, Kentucky.
