Anna Cooper Slechter, 86, of Crestwood, Kentucky met her Savior on August 17, 2022. Anna was born on September 11, 1935 to the late Cosby Cooper and Golda Meece Cooper in Font Hill, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Rex Dale Slechter, a sister, Alma Cooper Duffy, her children, Mat (Meredith) Slechter and Shannon (Jeremy) Slechter Tarter and five grandchildren.
Anna obtained her B.A. from Eastern Kentucky University, and her M.A. in Education from the University of Louisville. Anna enjoyed a thirty-year career as an English teacher working for the Jefferson County and Oldham County Public Schools. Her love for literature was infectious, and she was revered by family, students and colleagues as the most astute grammarian many had ever known. She felt tremendous pride in seeing her students succeed in life and make the world a better place.
For over sixty years, she was a faithful member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, where she found her calling in the children’s ministry, primarily volunteering in the church nursery where she cuddled and cared for infants for over fifty years. In retirement, Anna enjoyed traveling the world and shamelessly spoiling her grandchildren with popsicles and soda on demand. She is remembered as a wonderful hostess and cook.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Norton Brownsboro Hospital for the excellent care and compassion they exhibited to Anna during her final days.
Visitation will be at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Walnut Street Baptist Church followed by interment at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Community Ministries of Walnut Street Baptist Church to assist people in need.
