Sylvia Snyder Obituary


Sylvia Beasley Snyder (78) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Louisville, KY.  Sylvia was born January 6, 1940 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Dr. William D. and Henrietta K. Beasley.  She attended Springfield High School and graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1961.  Sylvia received her Master of Library Science from Wright State University.  In 1985 Sylvia moved from Dayton, Ohio to Louisville with her husband Tom.  Sylvia was known for her love of reading.  She spent many years as an elementary school librarian and supporter of children’s literacy in the Jefferson County Public Schools.   As a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, she had an unwavering faith and a passion for liturgy and music.  She loved horses, travel, history, games and collecting books (and books and books!!)  Most importantly, Sylvia was known for her unending compassion, smiling face and kindness to all.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Snyder, her parents and her brother, Bill Beasley.
She is survived by; son Theodore (Laura) Bernstein Jr.; daughters Barbara (Bill) McIntyre; Susan (George) Hofer; Julie (Don) Sargent, Becky (Tom) Ferguson; grandchildren, Trace & Peyton Bernstein,  Billy & Teddy McIntyre, Cara & Matthew Hofer, Ben & Caroline Sargent, Mallory & Grant Ferguson.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday December 1, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church, 9212 Taylorsville Rd, Jeffersontown, KY 40299, from 12 – 1 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1 PM with Pastor Limbong officiating. 
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), your local library or children’s literacy program. Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood handled arrangements.
