Sharon (Sherry) Ellis Wheat passed away peacefully after a short, hard-fought battle of complications from pneumonia on Sunday morning, October 27, 2019. Sherry, oldest of three children, was born October 2, 1947 in Moorestown, NJ to Julia (Hanners) and William Everett Ellis. She grew up in Moorestown with her siblings Susan (Steve) Whitehouse and William Scott (Carol) Ellis. She graduated from Moorestown High School in 1965 and married Major W. Wheat, Jr. on August 2, 1969. Sherry’s two children are Julia (Matthew) Thomas of Lexington, KY and Amy (James) Peters, of Palm City, FL. Her five grandchildren are Lilia, Bretton, Ainsley, Autumn and James. Her brother-in-law is William Kenneth (Judy) Wheat and her sister-in-law is
Catherine (JT) Shelton. She has many nieces and nephews. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents. She attended Eastern Kentucky University where she met her husband of 50 years. Their first home was in Schweinfurt, Germany during Major’s tour of duty as an officer in the US Army. After discharge they returned to KY and in 1975 they moved to Crestwood where she became an active member of the Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church. She was also a valued member of various civic groups and clubs. She worked at Buschemeyer’s Jewelers in downtown Louisville, Executives Suites of KY in Middletown, Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church and as a Travel Agent with Dillard’s and AAA. Her favorite pastimes were crafts, knitting and entertaining. Her biggest enjoyment was watching her children and grandchildren's ballet, theatrical, cheerleading, instrumental, choral and sports endeavors. Sherry will be dearly missed by her many friends and family. The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at 12:00 PM, at the Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church on 119 Central Ave in Pewee Valley, Ky with Reverend Joel Weible officiating. A reception in the Family Life Center will follow the service. Donations, as expressions of sympathy, are suggested to be in Sherry’s name for the Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church.
