Richard Stevens Obituary

Richard Henry Stevens was born on January 2, 1943, to Richard Harrison Stevens and Peggy McKenney Stevens in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He passed away on January 2, 2019, at Baptist Louisville surrounded by family and friends.

Richard attended Oldham County High School where he was a halfback on their winning football team for two years.  After graduation he married Susan Nash of Louisville, and moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky where he attended Western Kentucky University and graduated in 1968 with his BA in business.

He then moved back to Louisville and began working at Corhart Refractories for the next 30+ years.  He then worked for the American Red Cross for another 10 years and retired in 2009.

Richard remarried in 1974 to Ann Alexander of LaGrange, KY and they made their home in Crestwood, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Richard and Ann enjoyed biking and golfing and socializing with friends and family.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, attending many races throughout the years, including Brickyard 400 for 14 years straight.  His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt!

After retirement, he enjoyed hanging with friends at Otts Tavern where he watched NASCAR, sports, and enjoyed many Oaks and Kentucky Derbys.  If you asked him his opinion, he would give it to you straight, no sugar coating!  He had a great sense of humor in how he looked at life!

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Stevens and his parents, Richard Harrison Stevens and Peggy and Hiram Taylor.

He is survived by his children; Richard Stevens (Sandra), Gregory Stevens (Stephanie), Tracy Mathis (Greg), Amanda Stevens, Austin Stevens (Amira); grandchildren, Meredith Steinmetz (Timothy), Casey, Corbin, Codey Stevens, Chelsea Rojas (Trinoh), Carley Klingenfus (Craig), Caitlin and Sidney Stevens, Hayden Mathis, Noble and Knox Barowsky; 4 great grandchildren, Shyne Martin Scruggs, Kayley Klingenfus, Kenzie Klingenfus, and Isla Rojas and two on the way; brother, Bill Taylor (Joanne); sister, Joan Bryant (David); uncle, Michael McKenney (Evalee), and many nieces and nephews.  Richard is also survived by his companion and caregiver for the last two years, Darlene Burgin.
