Harvey Lee Banister, Sr., 81, of LaGrange, died on Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was born in Louisville on October 17, 1937.
Harvey was preceded in death by his loving parents, Roy Lee Banister and Lucille Shrader Banister. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, DeLois Sheffield Banister; son, Harvey L. “Skip” Banister, Jr.; daughter, DeAnna Banister Lyninger (David); grandchildren, Allison Hoffer (Drew), Corey Banister, Aaron Banister, Jonathan Lyninger, and LeeAnn Lyninger; and four great-grandsons.
Harvey was a faithful Christian and active member and deacon at DeHaven Baptist Church in LaGrange. He proudly served in the Air Force and Army National Guard. He was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #47 in LaGrange, Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Scottish Rite, Commandery, and The Shriners. He served the city of LaGrange as council member, part-time patrolman and police commissioner, and a member of the volunteer fire and rescue squad. He was retired after 43 years at Neill-LaVielle Supply Company as a sales representative. Harvey Banister was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many.
Visitation will be Thursday, 4-8 p.m. at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.
Visitation will also be Friday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at DeHaven Baptist Church, LaGrange.
Funeral service will be Friday, 12 p.m. at DeHaven Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Valley of Rest Cemetery, LaGrange.
