George David Rasmusson, age 81, passed away at home on Saturday, June 1, 2019 after battling mesothelioma.
Mr. Rasmusson is survived by his wife, Audrey, his two children: Rick Rasmusson and Lorinda Vance. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren, with another due in November.
George was a veteran of the Cold War and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Nuclear Navy serving under the direction of Admiral Rickover. He earned several awards, including the China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Five Good Conduct Medals, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. George grew up in Wyoming, Minnesota, one of three sons of George and Isabel Rasmusson. As a child, he remembered growing up on a dairy farm. He started school in a one room schoolhouse about 3 miles from home. He enjoyed fishing and frog hunting with his Dad and his dog. His first jobs were mostly working at gas stations and servicing cars. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became an electrician. After 20 years of military service he retired and enjoyed spending time with his family, working civilian jobs as a maintenance electrician, and then celebrated full retirement when he and Audrey traveled across the Unites States in their RV trailer. George said the most important thing in his life was his relationship with Jesus. He passed on a rich Christian legacy and is followed by 3 generations of family who love the Lord.
