Floyd William Hartlage, 75, of Goshen, KY, formerly of Louisville, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Norton Hospital. Floyd was a lifetime parishioner of St. Denis, Louisville; St. Aloysius, Pewee Valley; and Immaculate Conception, Lagrange; and a life member of St. Joseph Catholic Orphan Society, Louisville.
From his parents’ farm in Shively, Floyd went into the service. During his four years in the Air Force, he married Shirley Ann Shelburne – in 1963. He then worked at B.F. Goodrich, General Electric, and Anglo American Tool & Die. In 1978, Floyd and Shirley founded their own business, Hartlage Mold & Tool, Inc., in Buckner. In 1992, they expanded the company into Hartlage Manufacturing, Inc.
Floyd was a lifelong competitor, from picking beans on the farm to keep up with his older brothers, to bowling in the Air Force (with highest average in all military branches), to golfing, and shooting sporting clays. In 2010, he was recognized by the Commonwealth of Kentucky for being one of 11 Americans to represent our country in the FITASC Sporting Clays Championship in Italy, winning the Gold medal, and the World English Sporting Clays Championship in England.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Kevin Hartlage (2002), and brothers Father Albert J. (2016) and Carl M. (2008).
He is survived by his sons Richard W., Anthony W. (Cindy), Charles D. (Gretchen), and Brian K. (Miranda); grandchildren Hannah, Scott (Kelly), Zachary, Chandler, Margaret, Claire, Cecilia, Joan, Benjamin, and Grace; great-grandchildren Stella and Penny; and brothers Bert, Dub, Earl, Jerry, and Mike.
His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, April 3, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, LaGrange,, KY, with burial in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Sunday, April 2, at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood, KY.
