Eddrick DeShun "Shawn" Garlington

Eddrick DeShun “Shawn” Garlington, of Louisville, KY,died on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. He was 36 years old. He was born on June 17, 1980 in Anniston, AL. In 2004, at the age of 24, he was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. He was attending college when he had to drop out to receive treatment via numerous brain surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. He graduated from Carl D. Perkins Vocational Training Center in Thelma, KY and returned home with strengthened memory skills and the ability to work. He began his career at Kroger in Middletown, KY in 2009 and continued working there until his death. He dedicated himself to exemplifying Christ’s image in every word and, most importantly, every action. He loved serving others and always put himself last. Shawn was a humble, forgiving, patient man of God. He was a devoted follower of the Seventh-day Adventist faith and attended Middletown, Pewee Valley, and the Louisville Korean Seventh-day Adventist Churches. 

Shawn is survived by his grandfather Eddie Garlington, mother Yong Sun Hwang, father Eddie Garlington Jr., sister Kenya Garlington, stepfather Kuem Suk Hwang, sisters Hyeree and Hyesil Hwang, his aunt and uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces. Shawn treated his two beloved nieces Hana and Mina Lewis like his own children.

A funeral will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, KY at 5PM, with visitation from 1-5PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shawn’s name to the Stoess Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses. Shawn’s burial will be held at Floydsburg Cemetery Monday 9:30 am.

​A loving and sacrificial son, brother, and uncle, Shawn will be missed by many. We will see him again when Christ returns. “So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.” Matthew 20:16 NKJV.
