Zagorski,, Wladyslaw Stanley "Stan" ,88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Louisville, Kentucky with his wife and daughter by his side. Stan was born December 18, 1926, in the Polish village of Tarabanovkka, Ukraine, to Maria and Jan Zagorski. His family survived the Black Famine and endured several moves and displaced person camps due to World War II. In the summer of 1949, his family received visas to come to the United States of America where the National Catholic Welfare Conference (NCWC) helped his family get transportation and jobs in Burlington, Iowa. In 1951, he volunteered to join the US Army during the Korean War to become a US citizen. He served in the 101st Airborne division and became a Non Commissioned Officer. He used the GI Bill to attend the University of Iowa and graduated with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an employee of 32 years for General Electric where he was an Electrical Engineer with several patents to his name and international purchasing manager. He lived in Trumbull, Connecticut for 38 years and had recently returned to Louisville, KY. He was retired for 28 years and enjoyed spending time with his family and playing bridge with his friends.Stan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; children, Greg Zagorski (Rita), Steve Zagorski, Chris Zagorski (Sonya) and Stacey Maiocco (Rich); brother Roman, grandchildren, Nicholas, Gillian, Spencer, Garison, Lindsey, Lisa, Vincent Zagorski, Samantha, Anna, Joseph Maiocco; nieces, Christina Leffler, and Sandy Zagorski; and nephew Bernie Zagorski.Funeral Mass will be Friday 11 AM, St. Bernadette Church in Prospect, KY with burial to follow in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 pm, Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood, and 10:30 until time of service Friday at the church.
