Ruth (Kirby) Heavrin

Ruth Kirby Heavrin passed away on Tuesday, October 25th with her family by her side. Friday the 28th would have marked her 86th birthday.Ruth was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 28, 1930. She grew up in Lyndon, Kentucky, where she enjoyed all the perks of being an only child. When she was 20, she dropped out of school and married Vernon Heavrin. They lived in Cincinnati for several years where their daughters, Anne and Jane, were born. They were later transferred to Atlanta. Ruth later returned to school, completing her baccalaureate and Master's degrees. She taught high school English and Humanities at Briarcliff High School for several years, then decided to move back to Louisville to live in a wonderful horse-and-dog community. She continued teaching high school, resigning after 23 years and after having won several "Teacher of the Year" awards.

Several years later, she relocated to Hilton Head Island, which provided many health and social benefits. She was never short of company and loved living there with her beagle, Emily. After almost 15 years, she returned to Atlanta to be near her girls.

Ruth is survived by her devoted and loving daughters Anne H. Jarrett and Jane H. Ciervo.

For those wishing to pay their respects a short viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood, followed by a burial in Floydsburg Cemetery.
