Margaret "Dottie" Thelma Hirsbrunner Effinger, 91, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016
She was born on a dairy farm in Lyndon, Kentucky in 1924 and grew up helping her dad and family, milk cows, bottle milk, make butter and ran a dairy route selling their products. All while attending Anchorage High School. In 1943, she met and married Robert Effinger, a truck gardner at Hikes Point. After having three children, they moved to a farm in East Middletown, where they continued gardening, raising beef cattle and swine. She worked the fields and hotbeds, plus preparing all the meals and being a homemaker. She was very active in 4-H and National Junior Vegetable Growers Association, serving as a leader and advisor. Dottie became very active in the Middletown Methodist Church, playing the piano and serving as Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years. Later they retired to a smaller farm and she attended Crestwood United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Effinger: a son, James Ray Effinger; a sister Viola Rice and a brother, Nobin Hirsbrunner.
Dottie is survived by a son, Johnny Effinger (Joyce), a daughter, Janie Faletti (Bob); daughter-in-law, Ann Effinger; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral service will be 10 AM Wednesday, July 6 at Crestwood United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation 3 - 8 Tuesday at Stoess Funeral Home, Crestwood.
