Welcome to the memorial page for

George Alexander Howie

June 24, 1939 ~ July 25, 2015 (age 76) 76 Years Old

George Howie, beloved husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend passed away with his family surrounding him on Saturday, July 25 at the age of 76.
George was born in Vancouver, Canada but spent most of his childhood growing up in Boise Idaho.  In 1961, he moved to San Francisco where he met and married his wife of 52 years, Patricia Howie. In 1971, George and Pat moved to Louisville where they made their home in Pewee Valley. A navy man, George served in the US Navy for 3 years during which time he attended Guided Missile School.  He spent the remainder of his 48-year career in naval shipboard design and installation of guided missile and combat system programs. Those who knew George well might remember most fondly his many days at the ball field with his three kids, his ability to fix most anything (for anybody), and his love for his grandchildren, nature and all animals.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Patricia A. Howie, his loving children—Robert Howie (Lori), Jane Howie and Laura Howie (Rick), his four adoring grandchildren—Matt, Anna, Jackson and Bryn, and three much-loved granddogs—Zoey, Dasher, and Chance.  George also leaves behind four siblings who he loved and cherished—Jan Winter (Sam), Gordon Howie (Liz), Dalene Howie, and LuAnn Howie. His parents, Hugh and Pearl Howie, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Pewee Valley on Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00 pm.   A celebration of George's life will immediately follow at 314 Exchange on 314 Mount Mercy Drive in Pewee Valley.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Unbound to continue the sponsorship of a Guatemalan family that George has sponsored for many years.  Donate online and specify “in memory of George Howie”.  Donations can also be made to the National Park Foundation.
