Charlie E. Mingus

Charlie E. Mingus, 83, of Crestwood, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016.

He played football for Anchorage School and the University of Louisville, he joined the Army at 17 and was a tank commander in Korea, came home to work at the family grocery store, Kellie’s in Crestwood, later he took over from his dad, Kellie. Charlie met his wife at the grocery store.  Later he drove a school bus for Oldham County Schools and was Santa every year all around Oldham County. Charlie had been Oldham County Coroner, assistant jailer and helped start the fire department in oldham county.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Louise; a son, Charles Mingus Jr. (Debbie); a daughter, Liza Crall (Doug); five grandchildren Chelsea Housley, Kirby Cowart, Kelly Mingus,Taylor Cowart and Missy Steinbach; and two great-grandchildren Lilly Housley and Gabriel Housley.

Funeral service 2 PM Thursday at Stoess Funeral Home, followed by burial in Floydsburg Cemetery. Visitation 3-8 Wednesday and noon – 2 Thursday.
