Andrew "Junie" Lee Herdt Jr.

Andrew "Junie" Lee Herdt, Jr., 92, passed away May 9, 2017.  The son of the late Andrew L. Herdt, Sr., and Alpha Mae Purvis Herdt,  Andy (Junie) was born on April 13, 1925, in Pewee Valley, KY, where he spent his lifetime in the town so dear to his heart.  Andy was a devoted father, and a loyal friend to all he met.  An avid sportsman, Andy hunted, fished for bass and crappie in Kentucky Lake, played baseball and softball for many years, and golfed most of his life. He was a lover of music and a self-taught musician, playing piano, accordion, and ukulele. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a Freemason. Retired from South Central Bell as a test deskman, Andy stayed active with weekly pool, horseshoes, and cautious poker with friends, tending his yard with care, following the horses, rooting for the Cats, feeding the birds and “critters,” and reveling in the beauty of each day. He championed the working person and underdog in all he did and always voted his conscience. Andy is survived by his children Deborah Herdt, Julee Herdt, and David Herdt (Peggy Ellis), the mother of his children Irene Herdt, loving cousins, and close lifetime friend Moose Davis.  A memorial service will begin at 6pm, Monday, May 15th, at Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church.  A gathering of family and friends will follow the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to an animal or wildlife charity of choice.
